Overview

Burnout doesn’t just affect individuals—it spreads through teams, impacting productivity and morale. While many wellness apps help employees recover, few equip managers to prevent burnout in the first place. This project set out to bridge that gap, designing a tool that empowers leaders to foster healthier, more resilient teams.

Problem

Managers play a crucial role in employee well-being, yet they lack the right tools to detect, address, and prevent burnout within their teams.

Solution

A manager-focused app that empowers leaders to recognize, address, and prevent burnout, fostering a healthier and more resilient team environment.

The Journey to Our Solution

01. Research & Planning

Problem Statement

Start-up managers need to find a way to address burnout within their team to create a safer place to work and to improve performance and the company productivity.

But really?

Initial Hypotesis:

We believe that well-being at work will be achieved if managers attains to spot first signs of burn out from direct reports with tracking burn out app.

In-Person Interviews

In our in-person interviews, managers expressed a strong desire to support their teams but admitted feeling unprepared to spot and tackle burnout. This insight revealed a clear need for a tool that would help them identify burnout early and take proactive steps to safeguard their team's well-being.

The manager's message was clear:

  • “As a manager, it impacts also your performance and how you make sure your team members are set for success.”

  • “I want to help my team but I’m not a psychologist”

  • “I think a good leader should be able to recognize and asses burnout.”

Quantitative Research:

For our quantitative research, we designed a survey using Google Forms, targeting a diverse range of age groups and job roles. Here’s what we learned:

Competitive Landscape:

We were eager to explore what competitors were offering, searching for the perfect opportunity to stand out. The insights we uncovered were invaluable, revealing key opportunities for differentiation and innovation.

How might we help managers gain deeper insights into team's motivations and frustrations, quickly detect problems, choose the most effective actions, and measure overall team well-being and performance?

02. Design & Prototyping

We kicked off the ideation phase with the Crazy 8’s method to rapidly generate a variety of feature ideas, then refined our concepts using the MoSCoW method, carefully prioritizing them into two key categories.

  • Monitoring & Prevention: Individual profiles with personal progress, 1:1 recaps, progress tracking, a global overview dashboard, and actionable suggestions.

  • Education: Daily micro-learnings, weekly lessons, and quizzes to equip managers with knowledge on preventing burnout.

MVP Statement:

The burnout prevention app is a powerful tool designed to help individuals and teams proactively manage their well-being. It will provide team managers with essential tools to track and improve team dynamics and individual development.

Key features include personalized individual profiles to monitor progress, 1:1 recap sessions with progress tracking, and a global overview dashboard offering customized indicators. Managers will receive suggestions for individual member actions and team-wide improvements.

It will also include micro learnings, accessible through story-based content and a resource library that will support continuous development. Additionally, a weekly quiz will enable users to rate their learning progress, further enhancing engagement and growth tracking.

Low -fi & User flows:

To build a seamless user experience, we mapped out key elements and strategically placed new features within the app, creating a clear and intuitive site map.

03. Implementation

Leveraged agile development methodologies to build the scheduling app from the ground up. Prioritized feature development based on user feedback and technical feasibility. Implemented AI algorithms to analyze user behavior and optimize scheduling recommendations.

Wireframes & Iterations

We created low-fidelity wireframes to outline the app's structure, followed by mid-fidelity prototypes incorporating feedback from concept testing with three users. Iterations led to high-fidelity designs featuring:

Branding:

The goal was to craft a brand identity that felt both professional and approachable, infused with a sense of vibrancy.

Inspired by the word "aura", Ora embodies the energy that surrounds individuals and teams. The design reflects this vision with clean, modern typography, a calming blue palette for trust, and a bright yellow accent to inject warmth and vitality.

03. Testing & Optimization

Conducted rigorous testing across various devices and platforms to ensure compatibility and performance. Gathered user feedback through beta testing and iteratively optimized the app based on usability metrics and user satisfaction.

03. Implementation

After countless discussions and iterations, we reached our goal. The final product reflects the team’s hard work and collaboration. Rigorous testing across devices and user feedback from beta testing helped us refine the app for seamless performance and usability. The result? A polished solution that truly meets user needs.

Key Learnings

The Power of Broad Ideation

We focused too narrowly on one idea, missing out on other possibilities. This taught us the importance of broadening our approach during ideation to unlock more creative and effective solutions.

Collaboration and teamwork

By actively listening to everyone’s ideas and navigating disagreements, we reached a consensus, effectively delegated tasks, and aligned our efforts toward creating the best solution.
Components Facilitate the Work

Leveraging components in Figma streamlined our design process, ensuring consistency, reducing repetitive tasks, and allowing for easy updates. This improved workflow efficiency and enhanced collaboration, as team members could work seamlessly on shared components.
